This project was based on textiles, which is not my favorite subject in art and design. I find it very hard to understand and actually physically do. However, this textiles project was strangely one of my favorite projects that ive done over the past two years. I was extremely happy with the way my final piece turned out, it was exactly the way i imagined.
This is one of the first images that i produced in my sketch book, as you can see, there is no textiles involved in this image, as i was still not very confident with it. As my book develops however, more textiles is introduced.
This is another image at the start of my sketch book, i was experimenting with my theme that i had chosen. Flowers, leaves and fruit. this image was painted and i involved real leaves in it. it is generally just basic development at this stage.
This is one of my favorite pieces in my book, the black and white flower, stood out to me and seemed to stand out to many other people to. You cant see at the moment, but i introduced my first piece of textiles into this image, i sowed on buttons in corners of my page, to just experiment with a needle.
These images are all development pieces for my sketch book. I noticed that i seemed to be concentrating on flowers and leaves, so i had in my head that my final piece was going to involved them. However, i had chosen the theme flower, fruit and leaves. So i decided to involve fruit again.
These are the images of fruit i involved into my project, i do really like these images especially the strawberry and the seeds on it are actually cotton. I also quite enjoyed doing it, and decided at that moment that my final pice was defiantly going to have a lot more textiles than i expected and that it is going to involve flowers or leaves.
This technique is called 'Rag Rugging'. Although very time consuming, i like the way it has turned out, as it was my first time doing this, i chose to stick with something simple. Like a leaf. if i had the time i would have produced another sample, however, as im not used to textiles i had to spend a lot of time on my final piece.
I know this image is not very clear, but the reason ive involved it is because this is one of many projects that i have involved Claude Monet. One of my very favorite artists.
These images are what my ideas are for the border that is going to be around my main image for my final piece.
This is my final piece for this project. i am extremely happy with the way it has turned out and i am very pleased with how much textiles that are involved. To do this piece i had to dye a piece of white fabric, i dyed it at least three times to get a good color that fit the piece but didn't drown out the textiles. i then worked out where i needed to sow and how big the circle needed to be to out the drawn image of the flower in. I then did the piece and lastly i placed and fixed it around a canvas. The main outcome was for it to be an image on a wall. to make it better i would need to be more involved with textiles, i would make it less tatty and question, about how i can make it neater. However, for my first try, i am extremely pleased.
